Allstate 400 at The Brickyard Recap

Posted by chadmusselman on July 27, 2008

It’s hard to have an exciting race when there’s competition cautions every 10 or so laps. NASCAR did what they had to do to try and make the race safe and prevent too many blown tires, but it took strategy out of the teams’ hands. Looking on the positive side, it did provide for a 7 lap shootout where Jimmie Johnson was able to hold of Carl Edwards for the win.

How did my team do?

Chaser: Kyle Busch
Kyle didn’t run at Indy like he has at other tracks, but still had a solid run and was in the top 10 most of the day. The last couple cautions didn’t help Kyle out much as he finished in 15th.

Alternate Chaser: Tony Stewart
Tony didn’t contend much at all in the race and finished back in 23rd. Maybe him working on the Stewart-Haas team is starting to take away from his race-day focus. We’ll see how he runs in next few races and if he can make the chase.

Kasey Kahne
Kasey had an up and down day as two tire stops helped get him up into the top 10 at times. He pushed through everything and ended up with a 7th place finish.

Mark Martin
Solid run for Mark, with an 11th place finish. Not as good as he was talking about in the pre-race interviews, but he still ran well.

Darkhorse: Juan Pablo Montoya
Juan Pablo was one of the first cars of the race to blow a tire and he never recovered from that. In interviews before the race Juan didn’t have confidence in his car, and it showed during the race. He finished a disapointing 39th.
