Race 22 – Centurion Boats at The Glen Preview

Posted by chadmusselman on August 8, 2008

Watkins Glen is the second and last road course on the Sprint Cup Series. Over the past four years there have been 26 different drivers to finish in the top 10. That make it pretty difficult to predict who will finish in the top 10 this weekend, but I’ll give it a try.

My team this week:

Chaser: Tony Stewart
Stewart has owned Watkins Glen over the past four years with three wins and one 2nd place finish. In 9 career races he has 4 wins, 5 top 5s 7 top 10s and an average finish of 6.1. No need to consider picking any other chaser for your team.

Alternate Chaser: Denny Hamlin
Like other tracks for Denny, he has done very well in his first two seasons at The Glen. He has a 2nd and 10th place finish in his two career races.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale doesn’t have the best record at Watkins Glen, but I think he’s turning the corner, and getting ready for another top 10 finish. He only has a 20.6 average finish, but in two of the last four races at the track he finished 10th and 5th.

Ron Fellows:
Ron is one of the “hired guns” that will run the race the weekend. He’s been hit or miss at Watkins Glen. He does have three top 10s in ten races, but when he hasn’t finished in the top 10, he finished 25th or worse. Not good, but if he can avoid any major contact/collisions with others he should have a good day.

Darkhorse: Robby Gordon
Not a lot of people like Robby Gordon, and I’m one of them, but the guy can run on the road courses. In 9 career races here he has 1 win and 7 top 5s. He’s finished in the top 5 in his last three races. He should qualify well and run up front in the race.
