Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Preview

Posted by chadmusselman on October 23, 2008

The fastest track on the circuit is the venue for the next race. Atlanta has provided some exciting races in the past and hopefully will again this weekend.

My team this week:

Chaser: Matt Kenseth
Matt has finished in the top 10 in each of the past 4 races here. He has 6 top 5s at Atlanta in his career, but hasn’t managed to get a win yet. Maybe Sunday will be his day.

Alternate Chaser: Jimmie Johnson
When Jimmie gets to Atlanta, he performs. He averages a 9.6 finish here with 9 top 10s in 14 career races, and 3 of those being wins. He’s also been running strong the past few weeks, so look for him to be up in the front again this weekend.

Brian Vickers
Brian has finished in the top 10 in his last two here, and seems to be figuring out how to get around the tack with the big boys. He’s run pretty good all season and should continue his recent trend of success at Atlanta.

David Ragan
I’ll pick David based on his overall performance this year. It definitely won’t be based on Atlanta since his best finish in 3 career races is 23rd, and average finish is 30th. He’s struggled here, but he’s running strong right now and is due for a good finish at Atlanta.

Darkhorse: Reed Sorenson
In 2007 Reed did very well at Atlanta with a 9th and 3rd place finish. In six races he has three top 10s, which is pretty good, but his average finish is 20.5, which means if he doesn’t finish in the top 10, then he’s probably caught up in a wreck or having car troubles. If he can finish the race Reed should finish close to the top 10.
