Driver Recommendations for 2010 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Posted by chadmusselman on July 18, 2010

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the most prestigious and historic track that NASCAR races on.  Sorry Daytona, but it’s true.  This is definitely one of the 2 or 3 races that every driver circles the calendar for and wants to do well.  It also helps that the prize purse is one of the largest in the sport.

This Week’s Recommendations:

Chaser: Jeff Gordon
No one can beat Jeff Gordon’s four wins at Indy.  8.6 place average finish is 2nd best only to Tony Stewart.  Having 13 top ten finishes in 16 career races at the track and being the hottest driver on the circuit over the last 5 races, averaging a 3.8 place finish, Jeff should be the man to beat in Indy.

Alternate Chaser: Tony Stewart
Tony has 2 career wins, 5 top fives, and 7 top tens in 11 career races.  He also has the best average finish (8.5) at the track among active drivers.  Like Jeff, he’s been hot of late, averaging a 10th place finish over the last 5 races, good enough for 2nd best.  If Jeff isn’t your chaser this week, Tony should be.

Kevin Harvick
Happy Harvick has been pretty happy lately averaging a 12.4 place finish over the last 5 races.  He also has the 3rd best average finish here with a 10.6.  He’s a solid driver having a great season.  He’s finished in the top ten in 3 of the last 4 races in Indy.  He should be on your team this weekend.

Kyle Busch
Kyle Bush has never won in Indy, but don’t count him out this weekend.  He has done well here in the past, finishing 4th in 2007.  He’s young and aggressive, so anything can happen.  He has 3 top tens here in 5 career races.  You know he’s always a threat to win any race.

Dark horse: Joey Logano
True, Joey has only raced here once in his career, finishing 12th last season, but that’s a pretty good showing for his first time.  Maybe he can take a little confidence into this race knowing that he ran well last season, and that can help carry him to another top fifteen finish, possibly a top ten.
