Driver Recommendations for 2010 Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Posted by chadmusselman on October 11, 2010

Race five of the chase is Saturday night at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Last week Tony Stewart had a great race and moved up five spots in the standings to 5th place, and is only 107 points out of the lead.  Of course Jimmie is still the point leader and it’ll take a lot for someone to take him out, but Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick are within striking distance.  If Jimmie does falter they’ll be there to take the top spot.

This Week’s Recommendations:

Chaser: Jimmie Johnson
Why pick Jimmie?  Well, let’s see; he’s Jimmie Johnson, he’s the point leader, he has more wins here than anyone (6), and his 10.2 average finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway is second best only to Joey Logano.  In 18 career races Jimmie has 13 wins and 9 top five finishes.  If he’s not on your team already, why not?

Alternate Chaser: Kyle Busch
Kyle has been red-hot at Charlotte Motor Speedway the past few years.  He’s finished in the top ten in 6 consecutive races here, pretty impressive.  Kyle hasn’t collected a win yet, but he does have 4 top five finishes.  Kyle really isn’t in contention for the championship but he should do well this weekend.

Mark Martin
Mark has had a long and successful career in Charlotte with 51 races at Charlotte Motor Speedway with 23 top ten finishes, 18 top five finishes, and 4 wins.  He has managed two top ten finishes in the last four races here, so the magic isn’t gone.

Kasey Kahne
Of Kasey’s 11 career wins, 3 of them have been at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  He’s finished in the top ten in 5 of the last 6 races here, and the one time he didn’t finish in the top ten he was 12th.  That great run has brought up is average finish at the track to 11.6, good enough for 3rd best among active drivers.  Put Kasey on your team and give him a shot to rack up some points for you.

Dark Horse: Joey Logano
No one has a better average finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway than Joey Logano.  Granted he’s only raced here three times, but he’s averaging a 9th place finish with one top five and two top ten finishes.  Joey seems to have a good feel for this track and should be able to take home another top ten finish this weekend.
