Fantasy NASCAR Recommendations for 2011 Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas

Posted by chadmusselman on February 28, 2011

Viva, Las Vegas!  The Sprint Cup Series rolls into Las Vegas this week.  So far this season the racing action has been very good with lots of green flag lead changes.  There has also been a good amount of aggressive driving and bumping, causing some pretty large wrecks.  So far no one has had any tempers flare, but if this pace of driving and wrecking keeps up, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear some of the drivers calling each other out.

This Week’s Recommendations:

Chaser: Kyle Busch
This is Kyle Busch’s home track.  Kyle has done well here in his career with a win, 4 top ten, and 3 top five finishes in 7 career races.  His average finish of 11.7 isn’t too shabby either.  Oh, and Kyle and Kurt find themselves 1st & 2nd in the points chase so look for Kyle to try to expand on his lead and show off a little bit for his hometown fans.

Alternate Chaser: Jimmie Johnson
Average finish of 10th place in Las Vegas, and 4 wins in the last six races here.  Why wouldn’t he be on your team?

Mark Martin
Martin won the inaugural race in Las Vegas in 1998 and has finished in the top ten in 10 of the 13 races held in Las Vegas.  He’s one of the best here with the one win, 6 top five finishes, and an average finish of 12.8.  It’s still early in the 2011 season, but Mark Martin is sitting 6th in points, still mixing it up with the best drivers in NASCAR.  There’s no reason to believe he can’t keep performing.  Martin should be on your team, and leave him there for a while.

Joey Logano
Logano only has two career races in Las Vegas, but he did finish 13th in 2009 and 6th last season.  Not too bad for the kid.  It seemed that people were picking him to have a break-out season, and it hasn’t happened yet.  Maybe this week will be the race that he gets a top five finish.  He does have success in Vegas, and that should allow Logano to carry some confidence into the race and compete for that top five finish.

Dark Horse: Kasey Kahne
Kahne will try to follow-up his 6th place finish last week with another solid run.  He does have 2 top ten finishes in the last 3 races at Las Vegas.  In seven career races at the track Kasey has collected four top ten finishes.  Kasey is a good driver and is on a solid team.  He should be able to consistently contend for top ten finishes.
